Grad photos are a rite of passage for many high school students. They serve as a reminder of their academic achievements and excitement for the things to come. In 2023, I had the opportunity to photograph Christy for her grade 12 grad in Regina, Saskatchewan! And let me tell you, it was amazing!
We scheduled Christy’s grad session in July, which was great because they she didn’t have to worry about prepping for exams, or getting ready for grad. It was a chance to wear her dress again and hang out with her family!
On the day of the session it was raining off and on but we decided to go with the session because I knew of a Regina location what would protect us from the rain. If we wanted to move away from there I had some umbrellas! Good thing I brought them because we did go to the second location at the Legislative Building among the flower gardens and it was raining! Chrisy was ok with the rain and braved it anyways and the images were stunning!
I you are wondering how we did it, I would line up Christy where I wanted her, got her in the pose and then her dad would take the umbrella away for a few shots and then bring the umbrella right back to keep her dry. (And so you know, I had an umbrella over me as well to keep my camera gear safe! 🙂
Here are some tips for rainy sessions:
Use CLEAR umbrellas. Clear umbrellas allow whatever light is in the sky get to the subjects face and doesn’t take away from the background.
Find a dry spot first and capture all your “must have” shots, then move to the rainy spot.
Be ok with getting a little wet.

Christy, you were a joy to photograph! You have a gentle and kind spirit which made taking photos of you so easy! You looked stunning in your sparkle dress! This post has a lot of photos because I had so much fun and loved soooo many images from your session that I just had to share them!
