Congrats you’re going to have a baby!! That is so exciting! I hope your pregnancy has gone smoothly so far!
Today I want to share with you all 3 tips for planning your maternity photo session! Some things we will cover are:
When to do a maternity session?
What props should you bring?
Second outfit info
So let’s get started!
When to do a maternity session
The best time to do a maternity session is around that 32 – 36 week mark. You will have a large enough bump to show that you didn’t eat to much pizza for supper (haha), and moms-to-be still typically have enough energy for photos. Any later and there is more of a risk that you will go in to labour early, or you will become more swollen and may not feel “photo ready”. And if you were anything like me, I was super uncomfortable those last few weeks.
What props should you bring?
If you are going to bring some props, I would only recommend 1-3. We don’t want it to be so prop focused that it takes away from the baby bump and the parents to be. The baby bump is the best prop. 🙂
Some props that I do suggest bringing are:
The ultra sound photos
Baby shoes or a onsie that you hope to bring them home in
Something that says their name
Second Outfit
The last tip I want to share today is having a second outfit. This add more variety to your final gallery. It also shows can allow to you to show off your baby bump in a different way. Each outfit will highlight the bump differently. Considering having a tighter outfit and a more loose flowy outfit for variety!
Another suggesting is wearing a coat. Having a coat you can add variety by taking it off and on.
I hope these tips and tricks have helped you plan for your maternity session! I am booking maternity sessions, but note that I am no longer photographing new born sessions. But please remember me for your family sessions as your kids grow! 🙂 Congrats again!
