February 19, 2022
Today, Feb 19, Katie and Dez are tying the knot. A few months earlier they dressed up in some wedding attire and practiced for their wedding day with a styled shoot elopement out at the Claybanks Brick Plant by Claybanks, Saskatchewan! And on this chilly fall day, they got an A+ their trial run! (Katie is a teacher so I had to give her an A+!)
How this session came about:
One day I was scrolling on Instagram and I noticed a fellow photographer, Maddison Falk Photography make a comment about wanting to go to a workshop for couples or weddings. I thought to myself, I could do that, I have 10 years of wedding experience, I can totally share some photography knowledge with this photographer that is starting out! So I messaged her and said I would love to set up an elopement styled shoot for her and I! At the end of 2021, I made the HARD decision to move away from booking all day weddings and move towards elopements so this was the perfect opportunity to help this fellow photographer with all the tips and ticks I know and gain some new images for advertising the elopement side of photography!
Teaching isn’t something that I have really thought of before. I am not gifted with the desire to teach in a classroom setting, but creating this styled elopement for Maddison and myself was so much fun and really got my creative juices flowing. I was so surprised though at how much I enjoyed my time when I was sharing with Maddison about my tips and tricks for posing and prompting couples and sharing my heart behind why I do what I do.
If you were wondering how this session actually went, it was pretty much like I would run a typical session – creating a space where the couple can have fun with their main squeeze while capturing joyful, genuine and timeless moments all surrounded by love! The only difference was that once I would get them in a pose or position, I would share with Maddison, why I asked them to move their hand to a different place, or how to draw out different emotions, I would share camera settings, and how I composed the shot and more! It was such a great experience and I hope to do more of this when the days are warmer! (If anyone is interested in a mentor type session, let me know!)
It all came together so smoothly! We went for a boho, natural, intimate elopement theme and I couldn’t be more happy with the results. (The day could have been warmer though! But that is what you get for photographing in Saskatchewan during the later fall months.) I even got to stretch my skills and try something new with Dez’s truck! Scroll on down to see it!
For those of you looking on how to elope in Sask, look no further! Here is a post I wrote that will give you all the info you need to Elope in Saskatchewan!
The biggest question when preparing a shoot like this is, who is going to be the models?! Well, I knew the perfect pair – Katie and Dez! Katie is my daughters teacher, and I knew by the way that she spoke of Katie that these two would be the perfect pair for this elopement! They were up for anything and smiled the whole way through! Their fun-loving and joy filled spirit mixed with their down to earth and easy-going nature made this session so much fun! And today on your actual wedding day, Katie and Dez, CONGRATS to you both! You both did sooo well on your “elopement” day that I know you will have a total blast today! I can’t wait to see the images!
I want to give a huge shout out to the Claybanks Brick Museum for allowing us to come out to their BEAUTIFUL location! It was the perfect feel for this Saskatchewan elopement! If you want to have a session here – I AM ALL FOR IT! I absolutely LOVE coming out here because it adds a unique texture to a typical prairie Saskatchewan! Thank you so Newline Fashions for the wonderful dress! They have such a BEAUTIFUL collection of dresses and the kindest staff around! Thank you to the Flower Station for the STUNNING bouquet! As always, you amazing me with your creative bouquets! Thank you to Micah and Hanna for doing Katie’s make up and hair for the elopement! You both did an amazing job and I loved how natural and beautiful it was!
